Peterborough Male Voice Choir has been in existence for about seventy years, and in several guises. Members come from all age groups and all walks of life, but are united in their enjoyment of singing. Though several members have a musical background, this is not a prerequisite of membership. We do not even insist that new members are able to read music.
PMVC has a large and varied repertoire including spirituals, opera, religious pieces and songs from the shows. We sing both the serious and the frivolous, both simple melody and challenging harmony. The words to some of our music are in languages other than English.
PMVC gives up to 12 concerts a year and from time to time takes part in competitions and festivals. PMVC is affiliated to the National Association of Choirs. It is listed in British Choirs on the Net, and on Gerontius.com.
Musical leadership of the choir is provided by the Musical Director, supported by the Accompanist, and you can read about these vital people on the pages that follow.
General management of the choir’s affairs is the responsibility of an executive committee that is elected annually at an AGM. Some of the current committee are featured in the ‘rogues’ gallery’.
We are well supported in all our efforts by our patrons and by our Ladies’ Group, which is comprised of members’ wives and partners.
So, even if you’re neither male nor a singer, you can still play a part in our activities.
The choir publishes a periodic magazine Cross Key Notes featuring news and views, both serious and trivial, about choir life.
